Vietnam War :: essays research papers
Upon reading the novel After Sorrow, written by Lady Borton, I have realized that my view of the Vietnam War was skewed. Although I didnââ¬â¢t live through the Vietnam War unlike my parents and their peers, I thought I was close enough in age to fully understand what happened during that time in my countries history. This novel gave the account of the Vietnamese War told by the people of Vietnam who lived there during that time. The American soldiers used bombs, napalm, Agent Orange and other horrible weapons to kill the ââ¬Å"Viet Cong.â⬠The government justified the killing of the Viet Cong because they were under the impression that they were all communists. Reading this book described a totally different war, even the name is different. The American War, as the Vietnamese called it, was barely even fought by the Viet Cong guerilla soldiers. In actuality the war was fought in homes and market places by Vietnamese women and children. Another major misconception was that the Viet Cong guerilla forces were strictly communist; Lady Borton found that this was largely untrue. After all of the terrible and disturbing stories told by the Vietnamese in this novel, the fact that Uncle Beautiful cannot blame Americans for their suffering. This quote is significant to me because of the obvious unwavering faith Uncle Beautiful has for Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh believed the Marxists view of the distinction between government and the people during wars of national liberation. He voiced to the Vietnamese people that the American and Vietnamese people were on the same side and were victims just as much as the Vietnamese were. Minh held that the US government, controlled by capitalists, made money off of the arms industry and therefore a war would be in their best interests. He made the Vietnamese people see through their suffering and not hold the actions of a few Americans against the entire nation. I think it is remarkable how the Vietnamese could distinguish between the government and people of one nation.

Does a light Bulb Obey Ohmââ¬â¢s law? Essay
Does a Light Bulb Obey Ohmââ¬â¢s Law? Obtaining Table of Results Voltage 1 Current 1 Voltage 2 Current 2 Average Voltage Average Current Average ResistanceAnalysis After conducting my experiment and analysing my results I have found that a light bulb does not obey ohmââ¬â¢s law, it is a non-ohmic conductor. From the graph obtained from the results it is clearly shown how ohmââ¬â¢s law doesnââ¬â¢t apply to the light bulb. The graph clearly shows that the current is not proportional to the voltage. The graph shows that as the voltage increased the increase in current was reduced. i. e. when the potential difference was 4 volts the current increased by 0. 34 amps, when the potential difference was 8 volts the current increased by 0. 22 amps. The results can be explained using science. Variables The variables in the experiment Independent variable I altered this variable. Voltage Controlled Variablesà Length of wireà Cross sectional area of wire Wire Materialà Light Bulb Fair Test Controlled Variables For the interest of a fair test and accurate results, these controlled variable will be maintained and kept constant for each voltage, as they can affect the rate of reactionà Length of wire. The longer the wire, the further the electrons have to travel, so the more the resistance. The shorter the wire the less the electrons have to travel so the less the resistanceà Cross sectional area of wire. The larger the cross section of a wire, the less struggle for electrons to go past, the lower the resistance. The smaller the cross section of a wire, the more struggle for electrons to go past, the greater the resistance Wire Material. Different materials conduct electricity in different ways, the better the conductor, the less the resistance. The worse the conductor, the more resistance.à The same light bulb, which had the same tungsten filament. Ohmââ¬â¢s law does not apply to circuits where there are temperature changes. The variable, temperature, meant that ohmââ¬â¢s law could not be applied to the light bulb. It is the light bulb itself that emits the heat. Itââ¬â¢s source is the tungsten filament, as when electrons try to pass through the tungsten filament they collide with the tungsten atoms which induce heat and increase the atomsââ¬â¢ vibration, which leads to further collisions and leads to more light heat and of course resistance. The result supports my Hypothesis. Evaluation I believe the investigation was successful as the results produced agree with scientific knowledge. In the Ohmââ¬â¢s Law coursework I investigated whether or not a light bulb obeyed ohmââ¬â¢s law. In the experiment we progressively increased the potential difference to see how it affected the current flowing through a light bulb. The experiment was carried out accurately in many ways. All variables, other that voltage, the independent variable and temperature, were kept at a constant. The results were handled with accuracy. The results were plotted on a graph. A line of best fit was put on each result which meant the results are very accurate, rather than being rounded. The method in which the Ohmââ¬â¢s Law investigation was carried out is sufficient enough to support a firm conclusion, this is because: All variable, which effect resistance, were controlled and maintained. With the exception of, voltage, the independent variable and temperature, all were kept constant. For the interest of a fair test and accurate results, these controlled variable will be maintained and kept constant for each voltage, as they can affect the rate of reactionà Length of wire. The longer the wire, the further the electrons have to travel, so the more the resistance. The shorter the wire the less the electrons have to travel so the less the resistance Cross sectional area of wire. The larger the cross section of a wire, the less struggle for electrons to go past, the lower the resistance. The smaller the cross section of a wire, the more struggle for electrons to go past, the greater the resistanceà Wire Material. Different materials conduct electricity in different ways, the better the conductor, the less the resistance. The worse the conductor, the more resistance.à The same light bulb, which had the same tungsten filament. Voltage was supplied with an accurate variable d. c. supply. Current was measured using an accurate ammeter and voltage was measured with an accurate voltmeter. For further accuracy I conducted the experiment twice so I could work out the average. Both times the results were expected and were very similar. Therefore I believe that this investigation has sufficient evidence to support a conclusion that a bulb does not obey ohms law. A bulb is a non ohmic conductor. If I were to repeat the investigation I would improve it byà Using other conductors like lasers. Made the length of the wire into a an independent variableà Made the cross section area of the wire into an independent variable Made the material of the wire into an independent variable. Made the type of bulb into an independent variable Although I believe my investigation to be a success I believe if I were to make the improvements I said, I would have reliable results with an even stronger conclusion as a wider range of information would have been taken into account Ohmââ¬â¢s Law 1 Stepney Green School 10548 Show preview only The above preview is unformatted text This student written piece of work is one of many that can be found in our GCSE Electricity and Magnetism section. Scope of Managerial Economics Essay
Economics has two major branches namely Microeconomics and Macroeconomics and both are applied to business analysis and decision-making directly or indirectly. Managerial economics comprises all those economic concepts, theories, and tools of analysis which can be used to analyze the business environment and to find solutions to practical business problems. In other words, managerial economics is applied economics The areas of business issues to which economic theories can be applied may be broadly divided into the following two categories: â⬠¢Operational or Internal issues; and â⬠¢ Environmental or External issues Micro Economics Applied to Operational Issues Operational problems are of internal nature. They arise within the business organization and fall within the perview and control of the management. Some of the important ones are: â⬠¢ Choice of business and nature of product, i.e., what to produce; â⬠¢ Choice of the size of the firm, i.e., how much to produce; â⬠¢ Choice of technology, i.e., choosing the factor combination; â⬠¢ Choice of price, i.e. ,how to price the commodity; â⬠¢ How to promote sales, i.e., sales promotion measures; â⬠¢ How to face price competition; â⬠¢ How to decide on new investment; â⬠¢ How to manage profit and capital; â⬠¢ How to manage inventory, i.e., stock of both finished goods and raw material The above mentioned issues fall within the ambit of micro economics; therefore, the following constitute the scope of managerial economics: Theory of demand â⬠¢ Consumer behaviour- maximization of satisfaction â⬠¢ Utility analysis â⬠¢ Indifference curve analysis â⬠¢ Demand analysis and elasticity of demand â⬠¢ Demand forecasting and its techniques/methods Theory of production and production decisions â⬠¢ Production function [Inputs and output relationship] in short-run and long-run â⬠¢ Cost and output relationship in short-run and long-run â⬠¢ Economies and diseconomies of scale 7 â⬠¢ Optimum size of firm and determining the size of firm. â⬠¢ Deployment of resources [labour and capital] for having optimum combination of factors of production. Analysis of market structure and pricing theory â⬠¢ Determination of price under different market conditions â⬠¢ Price discrimination â⬠¢ Multiple pricing policy â⬠¢ Advertising in competitive markets â⬠¢ Different pricing policies and practices Profit analysis and profit management â⬠¢ Nature and types of profit â⬠¢ Profit planning and policies â⬠¢ Different theories of profit Theory of capital and investment decisions â⬠¢ Cost of capital and return on capital-choice of investment projects â⬠¢ Assessing the efficiency of capital â⬠¢ Most efficient allocation of capital â⬠¢ Capital budgeting Macro Economics Applied to Business Environment Environmental issues relate to general environment in which business operates. They are related to overall economic, social and political environment of the country. The following are the main ingredients of economic environment of a country : â⬠¢ The type of economic system- capitalist, socialist or mixed economic system. â⬠¢ General trends in production, employment, income, prices, saving and investment. â⬠¢ Volume, composition and direction of foreign trade. â⬠¢ Structure of and trends in the working of financial institutions- Banks, NBFCs, insurance companies an other financial institutions. â⬠¢ Trends in labour and capital market. â⬠¢ Economic policies of the government- Fiscal policy, Monetary policy, EXIM- policy, Industrial policy, Price policy etc. â⬠¢ Social factors- value system, property rights, customs and habits. â⬠¢ Social organizations- Trade unions, consumer unions and consumer co-operatives and producers unions. â⬠¢ Political environment is constituted of the following factors: â⬠¢ Political system-democratic, socialist, communist, authoritarian or any other type. â⬠¢ Stateââ¬â¢s attitude towards private sector â⬠¢ Policy, role and working of public sector â⬠¢ Political stability. â⬠¢ The degree of openness of the economy and the influence of MNCs on domestic markets- Integrations of nationââ¬â¢s economy with rest of the world (Policy of globalization) 8 The environmental factors have a far reaching influence on the functioning and performance of firm/s. Therefore, business managers have to consider the changing economic, social and political environment before taking any decision. Managerial economics is however, concerned with only the economic environment and in particular with those which form the business climate. The study of social and political factors falls out of the perview of managerial economics. It should, however, be borne in mind that economic, social and political factors are inter-dependent and interactive. The environmental issues mentioned above fall within fourwalls of macro economics, therefore the following constitute the scope of managerial economics: Issues related to Macro Variables â⬠¢ General trends in economic activities of the country â⬠¢ Investment climate â⬠¢ Trends in output â⬠¢ Trends in price ââ¬â level (state of inflation) â⬠¢ Consumption level and its pattern â⬠¢ Profitability in business expansion Issues related to Foreign Trade â⬠¢ Trade relation with other countries â⬠¢ Sector and firms dealing in exports and imports â⬠¢ Exchange rate fluctuations â⬠¢ Inflow and outflow of capital â⬠¢ Trends in international trade- volume, composition, and direction â⬠¢ Trends in international prices of various goods and services â⬠¢ International monetary mechanism â⬠¢ Rules, regulations and policies of WTO Issues related to Government Policies â⬠¢ Regulation and control of economic activities of private sector business enterprises â⬠¢ Enforcing the government rules and regulations for imposing of social responsibility â⬠¢ Striking balance between firmââ¬â¢s objective of profit maximization and societyââ¬â¢s interest â⬠¢ Policy and regulatory measure for reducing social costs in terms of environmental pollution, congestion and slums in cities, basic amenities of life such as means of transportation and communication, water, electricity supply etc.
Subculture Groups
Itââ¬â¢s hard to choose just one subculture that I belong to. I am a working mother, student and a wife. But if I had to classify just one, I would put myself into the mother category. Being a mother is a hard job, and canââ¬â¢t be taken lightly. Itââ¬â¢s a twenty four hour, seven day a week job and is something I would not change for the world. We are commonly called the heroes for being there to take care of the sick, sad or angry child. The taxi driver, because as everyone knows, we are always there to give rides back and forth to whatever activity our kids need. There is also the punisher. If you a mother, you know all about that one, the person who always has to punish because the dad is the majority of the time, the easy going one! There are so many names for our group, and of course, we are the lucky ones of all the groups, because of all the learning, patience and understanding we all gain. Regardless of your background, all mothers would agree that the perception of being a mother thrives on being the best mother you can be to the best of your ability. All mothers share the same values, and that is raising a happy, healthy smart child. Even though at times its tough, and you just want to scream, teaching your kids, feeling the love from your child and nurturing them is what every mother lives off of. As a mother, I have learned that many things. The relationship that I have with my son has taught me understanding. I watch him grow, and realize that all the hard times that Iââ¬â¢ve dealt with, and all the pain Iââ¬â¢ve gone through, is all worth it.Even though my social life has dwindled, and I barely have time for myself, I find that Many men think that being a mother is an easy job, and some always want to know why we are always so tired (or maybe itââ¬â¢s just my husband). If you are not part of this group, there is no way to understand the feelings, heartache, and worry that constantly stay on our minds. This subculture that Iââ¬â ¢ve been apart for the last five years has helped me grow and realize that Iââ¬â¢m not alone.Iââ¬â¢m so lucky to be a part of this group, and I wouldnââ¬â¢t change it for the world. I stand beside a great group of women, who to me are my heroes. The last five years with my little man have taught me a lot. Iââ¬â¢ve learned patience, understanding, and how to love. Iââ¬â¢m proud to be a part of this group, and am glad that I always have someone who understands what I go through each day. Mothers stand out in a crowd, and are the toughest women out there!

Marketing Environment Essay
The Marketing Environment Learning Objectives 1. Describe the environmental forces that affect the companyââ¬â¢s ability to serve its customers. 2. Explain how changes in the demographic and economic environments affect marketing decisions. 3. Identify the major trends in the firmââ¬â¢s natural and technological environments. 4. Explain the key changes in the political and cultural environments. 5. Discuss how companies can react to the marketing environment. Chapter Overview In order to correctly identify opportunities and monitor threats, the company must begin with a thorough understanding of the marketing environment in which the firm operates. The marketing environment consists of all the factors and forces outside marketing that affect the marketing managementââ¬â¢s ability to develop and maintain successful relationà ¬ships with its target customers. Though these factors and forces may vary depending on the specific company and industrial group, they can generally be divided into broad microenvironmental and macroenvironmental components. For most companies, the microenvironmental components are: the company, suppliers, marketing channel firms (intermediaries), customer markets, competitors, and publics. The macroenvironmental components are thought to be: demographic, economic, natural, technological, political, and cultural forces. The wise marketing manager knows that he or she cannot always affect environmental forces. Smart managers can take a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to the marketing environment. As a companyââ¬â¢s marketing management collects and processes data on these environ-ments, it must be ever vigilant in its efforts to apply what it learns to developing opportunities and dealing with threats. Studies have shown that excellent companies not only have a keen sense of customer but an appreciation of the environmental forces swirling around them. By constantly looking at the dynamic changes that are occurring in the aforementioned environments, companies are better prepared to adapt to change, prepare long-range strategy, meet the needs of todayââ¬â¢s and tomorrowââ¬â¢s customers, and compete with the intense competition present in the global marketplace. Chapter Outline 1. The Companyââ¬â¢s Microenvironment The Company a. In designing marketing plans, marketing management takes other company groups into account. These interrelated groups form the internal environment. b. Marketing managers must work closely with other company departments. Suppliers c. Suppliers form an important link in the companyââ¬â¢s overall customer value delivery system. d. Marketing managers must watch supply availability. They also monitor the price trends of their key inputs. e. Most marketers today treat their suppliers as partners in creating and delivering customer value. Marketing Intermediaries f. Marketing intermediaries help the company to promote, sell, and distribute its goods to final buyers. i. Resellers are distribution channel firms that help the company find customers or make sales to them. ii.

Things That Annoy Me
Topic: things that annoy me in everyday life Things that annoy me? That's a question which each person has his own personal opinion on this Matter my personal one being different to many of other people. I'll tell you what annoys me everyday, rude people you go up to some people asking for directions in the city and the completely ignore you like you're not even there. Manners should be a basic in people's lives but apparently as I can see and experience almost everyday that's not the case. People are being brought up without manners in these days and its annoying me quite a lot.Noisy neighbors In the morning are also a problem since I do not begin university until later on in the morning however my neighbors who wake up to go to work also have noisy kids who decide to yell on their way outside the house so as a result I end up waking up way before I have to and having difficulties going back to sleep making me have slight sleep withdrawal symptoms in class. Another thing that annoys me in everyday life is when I get back to my apartment and want to relax after a stressful day by playing some online video games or want to surf the Internet to watch movies or listen to music and I have Internet connection issues. This frustrates me mostly since I have to get up off the couch figure out what the problem is try and fix it and if y attempts are unsuccessful I have to call the provider and wait on hold to talk to them and having to wait for them to come over and fix it which takes a few days. However even though there are a million things that annoy me in everyday life these are my main reasons. I have a million reasons that annoy me but I Also have select few reasons that make me want to wake up in the morning and start my day despite all thee negativites. By Nicholas Kiprianou
